i am not the same, i am a..

martian.

Right we all have heard that line by Lil Wayne. I believe he got it right when he rapped “I am not the same, I am a martian”. Okay so maybe I don’t agree with him on why he is saying that, but it proves my point. One of the biggest challenges in a my Christian walk is realizing that I am in this world but not of it. Simple to say right? Hard to live out. All I know is time and what is in front of me, but once I became a Christian my mindset had to totally change and its a daily reminder. It is so hard to change everything you know and live my life out with the mindset of “we are aliens to this world”. This world {thank God} is not our permanent home. We are only here a short time. I think a lot of people have forgotten that fact. Sure live it up you only have on life..but after that life what do I have? I know the answer to that for me but what do you have? Can you answer that question with confidence?

13 “Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. 14 I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. 19 And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth. John 17:13-19

When you act a different way from the what the world says to act, you are considered an outcast. By outcast, I mean you standout. People around you can tell there is something different about you. If we were supposed to be like the world we would fit in and quite frankly that would be too easy. Being a Christian is SUPPOSED to be hard. It is SUPPOSED to be challenging. It isn’t supposed to go with the flow and please people.

19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. John 15:19

I was called a “Jesus freak” the other day. Most people would get offended by that or become defensive. I don’t understand why..I mean I’m Christian which means I am a Christ follower..and if I remember correctly Christ=Jesus. Wouldn’t I want that to be known? That would be like someone calling me an “art freak”. Heck yeah I love art! Heck yeah I love Jesus. I’m trying to prove a point here. As a Christian, I am called to be different. I am called to stand out. There is no blending in with Christianity. All I am trying to say is that if I stick out enough for someone to call me a Jesus freak that doesn’t even know my faith stance that well then I must be doing something right and I’m going to take it as a compliment.

I think Teilhard de Chardin says it best:

You are not a human being in search of a spiritual experience. You are a spiritual being immersed in a human experience.
